CYNANE was half-sister to Alexander the Great, daughter of Philip II of Macedon by the Illyrian princess Audata. She was one year older than Alexander and died the same year as the empire builder. Her Illyrian mother raised her as a warrior and fought on the front lines of a Macedonian army, killing the Illyrian queen Caeria in battle with her own hand. She died victim of the wars of Alexander’s successors.
